Note: Brownian motion of colloidal particles of arbitrary shape.
In general, the diffusion and mobility matrices of a particle depend on the choice of the reference center which is used to describe the rotational and translational motion. The requirement that the rotational-translational mobility matrix μ is symmetric defines uniquely the so-called center of mobility. In Ref. [1], this center was used to analyze the Brownian motion of a particle with arbitra...
متن کاملBrownian dynamics simulation of rigid particles of arbitrary shape in external fields.
We have developed a Brownian dynamics simulation algorithm to generate Brownian trajectories of an isolated, rigid particle of arbitrary shape in the presence of electric fields or any other external agents. Starting from the generalized diffusion tensor, which can be calculated with the existing HYDRO software, the new program BROWNRIG (including a case-specific subprogram for the external age...
متن کاملBrownian motion of a particle with arbitrary shape.
Brownian motion of a particle with an arbitrary shape is investigated theoretically. Analytical expressions for the time-dependent cross-correlations of the Brownian translational and rotational displacements are derived from the Smoluchowski equation. The role of the particle mobility center is determined and discussed.
متن کاملRelativistic theory of particles with arbitrary intrinsic angular momentum ( ∗ )
As is well known, Dirac’s theory of the electron makes use of a four-component wave function. When slow movements are considered, two of the components acquire negligible values, while the remaining two, at least in a first approximation, satisfy the Schrödinger equation. In a similar fashion, a particle having intrinsic angular momentum s h 2π (s = 0, 12 , 1, 3 2 , . . .) is described in quant...

Data are presented to show that the intrinsic viscosity of hyaluronic acid elaborated into the culture medium supporting human connective-tissue cells in vitro is modulated in a systematic manner by the cells. Intrinsic viscosity is reduced during rapid cell division and by hydrocortisone treatment. Conversely, the initial lag phase of culture growth and colchicine t reatment are attended by fo...
